A extended cruise around the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an older woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a rest. The vessel left without her and came back later that day after the ship staff became aware the woman was missing.

A large-scale hunt located her remains the next day.

Officials are looking into the incident, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an latest communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" preventing any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the moment of the senior passenger's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.
