19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after March of that year.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, supported by an better service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet rescued four early break points in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
